Powell Marsh provides a parking area and vista lookout as well as dikes to walk along. A Great Wisconsin Birding & Nature Trail (Northwoods/Lake Superior region) site. View a variety of bird species such as waterfowl, Bitterns, shorebirds, great blue heron, songbirds, marsh hawks, eagles, sandhill cranes, Northern harrier, LeConte's sparrow, short-eared owl, Nelson's sharp tailed sparrow, sharp tailed grouse, Henslow's sparrow, Black Terns and more. Bring binoculars. The 1800 acre wildlife refuge is No-entry September 1 through December 31 during migration period except deer hunting during gun season. Also popular for hunting. Powell Marsh is approximately 4,303 acres. Vista pool drawn occasionally to repair dikes, control vegetation and attract birds.
