Germantown's oldest crossroads settlement, established in 1842 by the Philipp Dhein family, still contains original half-timber (fachwerk), log, quarried limestone, brick, and Victorian wood buildings from its commercial past. The arrangement of the buildings and their construction design reflect a direct German influence of the Hunsruck area from which the pioneers came. The Historical Society's museum, resource center, and park offer insight and information on early pioneer life. Self-guided walking tour brochure available. A recently restored historic barn houses the Sila Lydia Bast Bell Museum featuring an exhibit of more than 5,000 bells from around the world collected by Ms. Bast during her lifetime.
