Farm Stay Vacations in Wisconsin
Farm stay vacations give travelers the chance to escape from the everyday and experience all the fun of a working farm. Whether you’re looking for a change from city life or a unique place to stay the whole family will love, Wisconsin is home to many special farm stays that let you and your crew get up close and personal with adorable animals and scenic vistas. And with charming accommodations and friendly hosts, you’ll get a glimpse of what Wisconsin’s all about.
The Dairy at Wegmueller Farm – Monroe
Less than five miles from Monroe and just two hours from Chicago, staying on this 4th-generation working dairy farm is more than just a place to lay your heads at night. At The Dairy at Wegmueller Farm, you and your crew can immerse yourself in the rolling hills of Green County and learn about sustainable agriculture in Wisconsin while getting to hang out with cute animals—including the family pigs, Professor Paisley and Chonkey.
Owners Dan and Ashley love teaching guests how to milk a cow, feed a baby calf and go horseback riding on the peaceful property. The recently renovated farmhouse sleeps up to nine people and looks out at the horses grazing in their pastures. At night, your family will be astounded by the breathtaking views of the milky way while enjoying cheesy pizza delivered right to your door from one of two nearby restaurants. And if a baby calf is born during your stay, you even get to name it!
The Farmer’s Inn – Viroqua
A rustic, log cabin located in the scenic Driftless area, the Farmer’s Inn is located on a small family dairy farm and invites you and your group to experience a one-of-a-kind stay surrounded by rolling hills. Unpack your bags in the cozy cabin that sleeps up to six and includes a porch perfect for sipping coffee together in the mornings. During the day, you can bottle-feed a calf, milk a cow by hand, pet the horses and help collect eggs from the chicken coop.
Be sure to venture into Viroqua where you can enjoy some farm-to-table fare at The Driftless Café and a locally-roasted coffee at the original Wonderstate Cafe.
Homestead Country Retreat – Taylor
If peace and quiet is what you seek, you've come to the right place. Located two miles down the road from an eighth-generation dairy farm, make your way over for as much or as little farm activity as you wish at Homestead Country Retreat. Watch the milking or the harvest, look for wildlife passing through the pastures, take a hayride and enjoy the outdoor recreation the area has to offer, including hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and more. Make the retreat uniquely yours and relax in the fresh country air.
Palmquist Farm – Brantwood
All year-round, Palmquist Farm is your country escape offering cozy cabin accommodations and activities for the whole family. This farm resort is located on 1500 acres and is a working beef and lumber farm that also specializes in Finnish hospitality, including delicious home cooked meals.
During the warmer months, enjoy horseback riding, hiking trails, fishing in bluegill and trout stocked ponds, biking and feeding and playing with the farm animals including chickens, rabbits, calves and horses. When the property is snow-covered, you and your crew can go cross-country skiing, sledding, ice skating and even take a magical horse-drawn sleigh ride together. There’s also a Finnish sauna on the property to keep you warm and toasty. No matter what the season, there is fun to be found at Palmquist Farm.
