The Richfield Historical Society (RHS) invites all to welcome spring at its annual Maple Syrup Family Day. Spring brings a whirlwind of activity to the RHS sugar shack, where the sap collected from maple trees in the park is cooked into syrup. Syrup-making demonstrations will be held throughout the day, with discussions of the history of maple sap products. Syrup will also be available for sale, while supplies last.
This year’s event will feature a maple syrup contest. Our celebrity judges are 2024 Alice in Dairyland Ashley Hagenow, Richfield Village President John Jeffords, and Spectrum News 1 reporter Ryan Burk. The tasting portion of the contest will start at 9:00 AM, and take place in the Granary building adjacent to the Sugar Shack.
Our famous pancake and sausage breakfast with real maple syrup will be served from 9:00 A.M. to noon. Coffee, hot chocolate, and hot dogs will be served from 9:00 A.M. to 3 P.M. Our wonderful maple cotton candy will also be available throughout the day.
All the park’s historical buildings, including the mill, will be open and available for free tours. The Pioneer Homestead area will feature demonstrations of lard rendering, old-fashioned cooking, and weaving on the antique loom. The kids will enjoy watching the chicks in the barn!
Stop by the Blacksmith Shop for demonstrations of the smithy’s art, and peruse the items for sale. This is always a well-attended event, and we look forward to seeing you there.
Admission is FREE.
