Schmeeckle Reserve, UW-Stevens Point
Schmeeckle Reserve is a 280-acre conservancy area on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Schmeeckle is managed to protect and restore natural communities, offer outdoor education opportunities, and encourage outdoor recreation. Explore 5 miles of trails and boardwalks, a 24-acre lake, and a large diversity of habitats that support numerous wildlife species. Enjoy a picnic in the beautiful Menzel Pavilion, attend a program at the Friends Amphitheater, watch for birds at the wetland overlook, and climb the treehouse. Visit the Green Circle Trailhead, the starting point of a 27-mile hiking and biking path the loops around the Stevens Point Area.
Open year-round, the Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center is your starting point for exploring outdoor activities in central Wisconsin. It offers free parking, restrooms, drinking water, a staffed information desk, exhibits, and a bird viewing area. Browse the gift shop for unique nature-themed gifts and books, and learn about the state’s conservationists in the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame.
