Started in 1928 as Tri-Cities Airways, the airport is owned and operated by the City of Wisconsin Rapids, the Village of Port Edwards, the Town of Grand Rapids and the City of Nekoosa. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2021–2025, in which it is categorized as a local general aviation facility. 

The airport features ample apron and aircraft parking, automated surface observation system (frequency 126.56), Runway 02/20 5500"x 100", Runway 12/30 3640" x 50", deicing, lavatory service, GPS approaches, 15,000 sq. foot heated hangar, meeting room, 24 hr. access pilot lounge / rest facilities. Air charter and training services available.
