Moccasin Lake Recreation Area
Moccasin Lake Recreation Area has over 9 miles of trail. The trail weaves its course through changing scenery dominated by maples, birch, pine, and hemlock. The trail oversees two river basins: the Prairie flowing west, and the Hunting flowing east. On the eastern leg, the view overlooks a vast black spruce swamp that extends all the way to and beyond Elcho. The far end offers three fun hills: the Luge, the Expressway, and the Muskellunge.
In the winter, over 5.5 miles of the trail is groomed and tracked for both traditional and skate ski styles. A separate Mocassin Lake snowshoe trail is packed. The snowshoe trail is 3.5 miles in length.
In spring/summer/fall time the trails are used for horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking. Moccasin is set up for primitive horse camping with pull-in sites. The sites have a gravel pad, picnic table, and fire ring. There is a Michelle's Lodge located off of the parking lot, a pit toilet, and a hand pump for water.
